Country Girl..

Before we left for California, I had a conversation that went something along the lines of converting Lauren to backroads and country music by the time we came home.

She liked country alright, but me? I love it.
I was raised on it...how could I not?
So it naturally became a challenge.
Regardless, I knew my goal could be accomplished when as we drive further and further into the mountains she kept saying things like...

"oh my gosh"
"you live here?"
"you LIVE here...."

After some off-roading and exploring, I couldn't see how she wouldn't be converted....

Then, as we drove away from home and I handed her the ipod for music control,
she turned on country music.
Mission. Accomplished.
Thanks for comin' with me, cowgirl ;)

oh heyyyy there!

I thought I probably owed you all a photo-montage of spring.
Life here is always happy during spring, and rain never lasts long.
Long enough to curl up and read a book...maybe enjoy some hot chocolate...
Then the sun comes out and you can ride your bike to school and just sit and bask in sunshine.
New sunshine, warm sunshine- not hot sunshine.
Fountains glimmer and frozen treats come to play.

This spring I've especially loved the freedom of it all.
Having everything to do all the time, but choosing whether or not you want to do anything at all.
Realizing that you are secretly 17 at heart when you buy multi-colored pens to stock up for back to school.
Getting large groups of people to go with you everywhere... even if it is just the gym.
Sitting in an empty library to study while you wait for your next class.
Eating dinner together on your bedroom floor... because you can.
Going to weeknight, latenight dinner with the boys just for fun.
Riding in the beds of trucks and on the back of motorcycles.
Receiving a new "spanish name". alter-ego anyone?

Hello, fireside on Christ.
Thanks for reminding me He has it all figured out.

Hello, Jess.
Thanks for telling me it won't work until it works.
It somehow makes it better.

Hello, life.
You are wonderful.

Love Always,

hi, i'm alive.

Good gracious.

My dearest readership,
[or at least those of you who are still around]
This game of ours has gotten pushed to the back burner in a major way the past few weeks?
[ugh. boo]

In the midst of it all I had a roommate get sick with mono... oh, and tonselidus too,
a sister get sick with a bacterial sinus infection,
midterms that never seem to end,
and a wonderful date or two. or three or four.... ;)

And the biggest distraction of them all: the weather.
You know those times when you can close your eyes and be perfectly comfortable just.. being?
The weather is just at that perfect moment that never seems to last very long,
but you breathe it in with all you have and wish it would last forever.
It never stays, but the memory gets you through the frigid cold of winter.

Yep, so my days are filled with more long barefoot walks and motorcycle rides than ever before.
Long phone conversations on the grass outside, and equally long phone conversations indoors.
I love the out of state friends? Apparently...

Spring, please stay forever.
I love you.

Meet Penelope.

I love her.

I don't know we've gone this long without her gloriousness gracing the blog.

More spring adventures.

That, down there, is what my fridge looked like at the beginning of this week.
And that is pathetic.
so pathetic that it's blog worthy.
[please note that none of that is edible food...thanks]
Never fear, mom! I went and got real food :)
in other, less pathetic realms of my life.....
Every afternoon this week has been spent outdoors.

Even though outdoors means "The Reluctant Mr Darwin"...
which wasn't exactly on the summer book list if you know what I mean.

But there's fun things too I promise.

like re-creating canon center meals.
with chicken cordon bleu, frozen vegetables, and waffles.
all the reasons for the freshman 15, together on one plate.
isn't it beautiful?

and cookie parties with really cool english people... and people going to England.
and engagement ring cookies to match.
or as it was so lovingly called in class today...
en-gag-ment.

And crafts!
like an earring holder with a finger-painted DI frame.

and experimenting with new hairstyles.

and going to the temple that I love so much.

and sitting on the benches outside the temple.
soaking up sunshine and the general splendor.

and finally, we come to the reason for the current, crimson nature of my back
the roof..... ;)
with it's privacy and girltalk and... proximity to the sun?

Just some more reasons I love spring semester, that's all.

Jess and I decided we should give up the front about our blogs being based on our lives individually..... because let's face it. It's more like the adventures of us, together. Literally, I see her probably every day. Yesterday, for example:
we ate JDawgs on the grass.
 and watched Tangled in 3D.
and took a picture with a flash in the dark theater.
They all hated us. But I felt great about it :)

Mostly we have to get in every sister adventure possible before she leaves for New York.
I love her. Way to be the best person I know Jess.

Also, watch this. Greatest thing I've ever seen.
And in case you haven't seen it.....do.
